Prof. Anke Hilbrenner

Anke Hilbrenner is professor for East European History at the University of Göttingen. She studied in Bonn and Bochum, and has taught at the Universities of Bonn, Bremen and Munich. Her research interest is the Imperial history of the Russian and Soviet Empires, reaching from East Central Europe to Siberia and Central Asia. She focuses on marginalized and subaltern groups, such as Jews, Muslims and Women. Until 2016 she chaired a scientific network on East European sport history, sponsored by the DFG. Her current research project deals with the European experience of occupation during World War II. It is also sponsored by the DFG. She published widely on the history of terrorism in the Russian Empire, sport history in East Central Europe and beyond as well as Jewish history in transnational perspective.
