This lecture introduces a new way to conceptualize migration regimes and how one might measure their outcomes in a valid and reliable manner across countries and time. Based on a database that systematically measures these dimensions and their constitutive demographic metrics for 30 countries, Justin Gest generates a new taxonomy of migration regimes. In the end, he will also undertake a preliminary causal analysis of what drives variation in cross-national immigration governance.

Justin Gest is an Assistant Professor of Public Policy at George Mason university’s schar school of Policy and Government. His teaching and research interests include comparative politics, minority political behavior, and immigration policy.
