Dominic Sachsenmaier is a professor of “Modern China with a special Emphasis on Global Historical Perspectives” at Georg-August-University Göttingen. In the past, he held faculty positions at Jacobs University Bremen, Duke University as well as the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prof. Sachsenmaier’s main current research interests are Chinese and Western approaches to global history, transnational connections of Chinese intellectual cultures and 17th-century Sino-Western cultural relations.
Prof. Sachsenmaier is an elected member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and he is the president of the Boston-based Toynbee Prize Foundation in Global History. Among other works, he is the author of Global Perspectives on Global History (Cambridge UP), and a co-editor (together with Sven Beckert of Global History, Globally. Moreover, he is one of the three editors of the book series Columbia Studies in International and Global History (Columbia UP). Dominic Sachsenmaier currently serves as the speaker of the Göttingen Platform for Global and Transregional Studies.
